A list of things I swore I would never use, because I was going to “age gracefully” and “embrace my natural body” and “be who nature intended me to be,” but which I now use on a regular basis:
Hair Colour
Under Eye Concealer
Whitening Toothpaste
Oil of Olay products (remember how OLD the ladies used to seem in Oil of Olay commercials, when you were a kid?)
Jowl-concealing neck scarves
Facial Masks
Can a face lift and tummy tuck be far behind?
I remember (with a giant flinch every time) how I told my mom and her friend that I was never going to wear foundation—that I didn’t see the need for it. I was probably 18 at the time. I still don’t wear it, but I’m beginning to understand their facial expressions when I said it.
I use all those things except undereye concealer, but that’s because I’ve become a BB cream addict. I even use Olay’s “Radiance” cleanser which is old lady if there ever was such a thing.
Meh, whatever makes you feel good! I’ve been using facial masks and fancy creams since I’m 14 😆
I tell my kids (half) jokingly that we can only start saving for university AFTER mommy puts away enough for her boob lift and jowl tuck. I’m also a fan of Spanx – something I had previously relegated to the category of “only for the truly desperate” I also spend way too much time looking at makeup tutorials on Pinterest – highlights and shading are my new best friends.
I honestly can’t remember whether I said I’d never use that stuff or not, but I don’t really care – young people shouldn’t really get to have a vote on it anyway. Does whitening toothpaste actually work???
